Southern Oregon nonprofit aims to ease end-of-life discussions in Latinx communities

Celia’s House, the only nonprofit hospice providing end-of-life residential care for individuals in the Rogue Valley, received a grant from the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute to conduct interviews in Spanish with Latinx patients with cancer to identify ways to better engage this community with discussions around palliative and end-of-life care.

OHSU scientists have received $4 million in philanthropic support to advance a first-of-its-kind method to turn an individual’s skin cell into an egg, with the potential to produce viable embryos. Shoukhrat Mitalipov, Ph.D., says, “It will take probably a decade before we can say we’re ready. The science behind it is complex, but we think we’re on the right path."

WSU College of Medicine to expand conditional acceptance program to enroll more Native students

Washington State University Elson F. Floyd College of Medicine, which has been a partner in the OHSU Northwest Native American Center of Excellence’s Wy’east Post-Baccalaureate Pathway since 2020, will host its own pre-medical pathway for American Indian and Alaska Native students beginning in 2024. This is possible thanks to a $3.4 million grant OHSU received from the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
