What Happened When a Whole State Was Offered Genetic Screening for Free?

A new OHSU study published in the American Journal of Human Genetics notes that more than 13,000 Oregonians have been screened for genetic diseases including cancer since 2018. First author Timothy O’Brien, Ph.D., says: “We’re hoping that this can really be used as a model for other states that want to do low-cost population screening. We’ve provided a kind of roadmap where up-and-coming screening programs can look at us and see both what worked and what could be improved upon.”
