Home Sweet Parking Lot: Some Hospitals Welcome RV Living for Patients, Families, and Workers

This story highlights OHSU’s program to provide RV parking spaces for patients and families. Brett Dodson, director of transportation and parking at OHSU, says in addition to improving patient comfort, the RV spaces set the hospital up to provide better care: “People who previously would have driven through the night to get to Portland for a morning surgery can now arrive the night before. They can get a good night’s sleep, they’d be ready for a surgery, and they’re there on time.”

Douglas County joins OHSU efforts improving health through nutrition

Douglas County is the fourth regional hub of the Nutrition Oregon Campaign, a statewide effort to end chronic disease through nutrition and science that is led by the OHSU Moore Institute. The institute’s director, Leslie Myatt, Ph.D., says, “The Nutrition Oregon Campaign is a natural progression of the work Douglas County has done through the Blue Zones Project and Thrive Umpqua to improve community health. We are excited to welcome them and support their work.”

She says: “Our role is to really look at everything outside of that physical care that you need — everything from finding financial resources to supporting with insurance or taking leave work. But also a lot of that emotional support that is also so important.”
