OHSU will conduct a clinical trial to test a specialized tube used in emergency intubation situations. The new tube includes a special balloon and an additional port that allows fluids to be suctioned from the throat and mouth, designed to reduce the risk of pneumonia, the most common infection among sick patients in intensive care units. Pneumonia can lead to more time on a breathing machine and may increase the risk of death. (OHSU/Erik Robinson)
